Federal Govt lift ban on Post UTME Screening by Varsities
Breaking News: The Federal Government of the Republic of Nigeria has lifted the ban on the screening exercise which is organized by Universities in Nigeria for those seeking for admission after sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
The FG had last year (2016) ordered the scrapping of post-UTME for candidates. The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, while speaking with Journalists yesterday 17th August, said universities could now organise post-UTME as a pre-condition to gaining admission into any Nigeria Universities.
Malam Adamu, urged the school managements to make the fees for the post UTME screening affordable and not to impose huge financial burden on the parents, said: “We are going to allow universities to organise post-UTME if they want”
The minister also expressed confidence in the 2017 examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), according to him, the management of JAMB had remitted N5 billion to the Federal Government coffers, which is the highest so far in the last 40 years of the existence of the board (JAMB).
The minister of Education said, the new JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede has been working profusely to correct many anomalies in the board.
